An Ann Arbor institution, The Dawn Treader Book Shop has bought and sold books in Ann Arbor and across the globe for over 45 years. In that time we have grown from a tiny basement shop to a spacious storefront offering more than 70,000 titles. We are hailed as Ann Arbor’s Best Browse, but don’t just take our word for it: LeVar Burton once tweeted during a campus visit that The Dawn Treader Book Shop is the “best bookstore ever”.

Established in 1976 by Bill Gillmore, The Dawn Treader Book Shop was purchased in June 2022 by its manager of 4 years, Africa Schaumann; her expertise is in rare & antiquarian books, and she is trained in book conservation/preservation.

Nothing compares to experiencing the book shop for yourself. We are open Monday-Saturday 11am-8pm, Sunday 11am-6pm for you to do just that. Step into the shop and out of the noise for a little while.

We buy books, libraries and collections in all areas of interest, from early printing to modern titles See left panel for subjects we are specifically seeking out. We sell all manner of titles in our shop, ranging from current paperbacks to long-surviving Incunabula; in price from fifty cents to many thousands of dollars.
